This assignment was to design a premium doorbell for mass production. Function, tactility, user experience and concerns of production process and materials were highlighted.
My goal was to create a doorbell that could fit both a house and an apartment building - and be even more interesting in the latter. Using the classic Friedman-doorbell as a starting point, I made my doorbell and button wider to give a more generous and welcoming sensation. Inspired by the Campus-chair by Foresom and Hiort-Lorenzen, I added a curve to the top of the doorbell. This curve has not completed its movement, but is cut straight at the sides of the doorbell. In this way, the curves of multiple doorbells placed in a row would create an impression of a continuous wave, adding another dimension to the aesthetic expression.
The doorbell comes in four colours inspired by the work of Koi Fargestudio for ASAK stein. The idea is that the inhabitants of an apartment building could each choose their own colour, and together create a pattern. The inspiration for the name is from Unité d´habitation by Le Corbusier in Marseille.
